ARNING:The arc-tube of metal halide lamps aredesigned to
operate under highpressure and at temperatures up to 1000ºC
and can unexpectedlyrupture dueto internal orexternal factors
suchas a ballast failure or misapplication. If the arc-tube ruptures for
a
ny reason, the outer bulbmaybreakand piecesof extremely hot

NJURY,PROPERTY DAMAGE,BURNSAND FIRE.
These lamps are designed to retain all the glass
particles should an arc tube rupture occur. The following
operating instructions are recommended to minimize
these occurrences.

INSTRUCTIONS MUSTBE FOLLOWED:
LAMP OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS:
1) RELAMP FIXTURESAT OR BEFORETHE END OF RATED
LIFE. Allowinglamps to operate untilthey fail is notadvised and
may increasethe possibility of inner arc tuberupture.
2) Beforelamp installation/replacement,shut power off andallow
lamp and fixture to coolto avoid electrical shockand potential
burn hazards.
3) UseonlyauxiliaryequipmentmeetingPhilipsand/orANSIstandards.
Use within voltage limits recommended byballast manufacturer.
A.Operate lamp only within specified limits of operation.
B.For total supply load refer toballast manufacturers
electrical data.
4) Periodically inspect the outer envelope.Replace any lamps that
showscratches,cracks or damage.
5) If a lamp bulb support is used,be sure to insulatethe support
electrically to avoid possible decomposition ofthe bulb glass.
6) Protect lamp base,socket and wiringagainst moisture,corrosive
atmospheres andexcessive heat.
7) Time should beallowedfor lampsto stabilize in color when
turned onfor the first time. This may require several hours of
operation, with more than one start.Lamp color isalso subject
to change under conditions ofexcess vibrationor shock, and
color appearance may vary betweenindividual lamps.
8) Lamps may require 10 to 20 minutes tore-light ifthere is a
power interruption.
9) Take care in handlingand disposing of lamps.Ifan arc tube is
broken, avoidskin contact with any of the contents or fragments.
1) Rated average lifeis the life obtained,on theaverage, from large representative groups oflamps in laboratory testsunder controlled
conditions at10 or more operating hours perstart.Itis based onsurvival of atleast 50%of the lampsand allowsfor individual lamps
or groupsof lampsto vary considerably from theaverage.

3
)Approximatelumen output at40% oflamp rated average life.
4) Notforuse in compact“wallpack”or“floodlight”typefixtures.Maximumtemperaturelimitof outerbulbmaybe exceededin these
applicationsand canleadto prematurelamp failure.
