line. Keep children, bystanders, and animals
50 feet (15 meters) away. If approached stop
unit immediately.

OPERATOR SAFETY
S Dress properly. Always wear safety
glasse s or similar eye protection when op-
erating, orperforming maintenance o nyour
unit. (Safety glasses a re available.)Always

Always w e ar heavy, long pant s, lo ng
sleeves,boots,andgloves.Donotgobare-
foot or wear sandals.
S Secure hai r above shoulder length. Secur e o r
remove loose clothing and jewelry or cl othing
with loosely hanging ties, straps, tassels, etc.
They ca n be caught in moving parts.
S Being fully covered also helps protect you
from debris and pieces of toxic plants
thrown by spinning line.
S Stay Aler t. Do not operate unit when you
are tired, ill, upset or under influence o f al-
cohol, drugs, or medication. Watch w hat
you are doing; u se co mm on sense.
S Avoid unintentional st arting of the unit.
Never carry unit with your finger on the
switch. Be sure the switch is in the OFF
position and never touch the switch when
connecting extension cord.
ELECTRICAL SAFETY
WARNING: Avoid adangerous env i-
ronment. To reduce the risk of electrical
shock,do notuse i nrain,in dampor wet loca-
tions, or around swimming pools, h ot tubs,
etc. Do not expose to snow , rain, or water to
avoid the possibility of electrical shock.
S Use a voltage supply as shown on unit.
S Avoid dangerous situations. Do not use in
the p resence of flamm able liquids or gas es
to avoid creating a fir e or explosion and/or
causing damage to unit.
S To reduce the risk of electrical shock, this
equipment has a polarized plug (one blade
is wider than the other) and will require the
use of a polarized extension cord. The ap-
pliance plug will fit into a polarized exten-
sion cordonly one w ay. If the plugdoes not
fit fully into the extension cord, reverse the
plug. If the plug still does not fit, obtain a
correct polarized extension cord. A polar-
ized extensioncord will require t h euse ofa
polarized wall outlet. This plug will fit into
the polarized wall outlet only one way. I f
plug does not fit fully into the wall outlet, re-
versethe plug.Ifit stilldoes notfit, contacta
qualifiedelectrician toinstall theproperwall
outlet. Do not change the equipm ent plug,
extensi on cord r eceptacle, or extension
cord plug in any way.
S To reduce risk of electr ical shock, use ext en-
sion cords specifically marked as suitable for
outdoor appliances havingelectri cal rating not
less than the r ating of unit. C ord must be
marked wi th suffix “W--A” (in Canada “ W”).
Ma ke sure yo u r exte n si o n cor d is i n goo d
conditi on. Inspect extension cord before use
and replace if damaged. Do not use a dam-
aged cord. Cord insulation must b e intact w ith
no cr acks or deter iorati on. Plug conn ectors
must be undamaged. An undersi zed exten-
sion cord will cause a drop in li ne voltage re-
sulting in loss of power an d overheating. If in
doubt, use the next heavier gauge. Th elower
the gauge number, the heavier the cord (see
SELECT A N EXTENSION CORD inthe OP-
ERATION section).
S Do not use m ultiple cords.
S Do not abuse cord. Never car ry the unit by
the exten sion co rd or yank extension co rd
to disconnect unit.
S Use c ord retainer to prevent disconnection
of extension cord from unit and possible
damage to the unit due to plug movement
(see ATTACH THE EXTENSION CORD
TO YOUR TRIMMER in the OPERA TION
section).
S Do not use the unit if the switch does not
turn the uniton and off properly . Repairs to
the switch m ust be made by your autho-
rized service dealer.
S Keep the extension cord clear of operator
and obstacles at all times. Do not expose
cords to heat, oil, water, or sharp edges.
S To avoid the possibility of electric shock,
avoid body contact with any groundedcon-
ductor, such as metal fences or pipes.
S Ground Fault Circuit Int errupter ( GFCI)
protection should be provided on circuit or
outlet to be used. Receptacles are avail-
able having built-in GFCI protection and
may be used for this measure of safety.
UNIT SAFETY
S Inspect unit bef ore use. Replace damaged
parts. M ake sur e all handles, guards, and
fasteners are in place and securely fas-
tened. Parts that are damaged must be re-
paired orreplaced byan aut horizedse rvice
dealer T he se include head par ts that are
cracked, or chipped, guards, and anyother
part that is damaged.
S Do not repair unit yourself.
S Use only 0.065 inch (1.65 mm) diameter
recommendedtrimmer line(seeUSER RE-
PLACEABLE SERVICE PARTS in the
SERVICE AND ADJUSTM ENTS section).
Never use wire, rope, string, etc.
S Use specified trimmer spool. Make sure
spool is proper ly inst alled and all parts are
secu rely fastened.

CUTTING SAFETY
WARNING: Inspect area to be cut.
Remove objects (rocks, broken glass, nails,
wire, string, etc.) which can be thrown or be-
come entangled in cutting head.
