MAINTENANCE SAFETY
WARNING: Disconnectunit fromthe
power supply before performing mainte-
nance, or when changing trimmer line.
S Maintain unit according to recommended
procedures. Keep cutting line at proper
length. Follow instructions for changing
trimmer line.
S Have all service and m aintenance not ex-
plained inthis manual performed by an au-
thorized service dealer to avoid creating a
hazard.
S Neverdouseor squirt theunit with wateror
any other liquid. Clean unitand labels with
a damp sponge. Keep ha ndles dry, clean,
and free from oil and grease.
S Keep the air vents clean and free of debris
toavoidoverheatingthe motor. Cleanafter
each use.
TRANSPORTING AND STORAGE
S Stop the unit and disconnect the power
source when not in use.
S Carry the unit with motor stopped.
S Store the unit so the line limiter blade (on
underside of shield) cannot cause injury.
S Storeunitindoors ina high,dry placeoutof
thereachof children. Storeunitunplugged.
S Donothangunitsothatthetriggerswitchis
depressed.
DOUBLE INSULATION
CONSTRUCTION
This unit is double insulated to help protect
against electric shock. Double insulation
constructionconsistsoftwoseparate“layers”
of electrical insulation instead of grounding.
Tools built with this insulation system arenot
intended to be grounded. No grounding
means is provided on this unit, nor should a
meansofgroundingbeaddedtothisunit.Asa
result, theextension cord used with yourunit
can be plugged into any standard 120 volt
electrical outlet.
Safety precautions must be observed when
operating any electrical tool. The double in-
sulation system only provides added protec-
tion against injury resulting from an internal
electrical insulation failure.
WARNING: All electrical repairs to
this unit, including housing, switch, motor,
wires, etc., must be diagnosed and repaired
by qualified service personnel. Replacement
partsforadoubleinsulatedappliancemustbe
recommendedbythemanufacturer.Adouble
insulated appliance is markedwith thewords
“double insulation” or “double insulated”.The

ASSEMBLY
WARNING: If received assembled,
reviewall assembly steps toensure yourunit
is properly assembled and all fasteners are
secure.
SHAFT ASSEMBLY
1. Align the upper shaft and lower shaft.
2. Push shafts together until they snap into
place.
NOTE: Whentheunitis assembledcorrect-
ly,thereshouldnotbe agap betweenthetwo
shafts.

ATTACHING THE SHIELD
WARNING: Theshieldmustbeprop-
erly installed. The shield provides partial
protection from the risk of thrown objects to
theoperatorandothers.Yourunitisequipped
with a line limiter blade, which cuts excess
line to the proper length while running. The
line limiter blade (on underside of shield) is
sharp and can cut you.
NOTE: If shield is not p roperly installed, dam-
age to unit (including motor f ailure) will result.
1. Place the shield onto the motor housing.
Ensure the cutting head remains free to
rotate and the line is not caught between
the shield and the motor housing (see il-
lustration).
