CHOKE
The CHOKE helps to supply fuel to the engine
to a id i n cold s tarting. Acti vate the choke b y
moving choke lever to the desired position. See
STARTING YOUR ENGINE for com pletestart-
ing information.
PRIMER BULB
ThePRIMER B ULBremoves airfr omthecar-
buretor and fuel lines and fills them with fuel.
This allows you to start the engine with fe wer
pulls on the starter rope. Activate the primer
bulb by pressing it andallowing it to return to
its original position.
THROTTLE TRIGGER
The THROTTLE TRIGGER controls engine
speed. Squeeze thetrigger for full speed opera-
tion; release it for idle speed.
WARNING: Muffler is very hot during
and after use. Do not touch the muffler or al-
lowcombustible materialsuchasdry grassor
fuel to do so.
BEFORE STARTING EN GINE
WARNING: Be sure to read the fuel
information in the safety rules before you be-
gin. Ifyou do not understand the safety rules,
do not attempt to fuel your unit. Call
1-800-554-6723.
FUELING ENGINE
WARNING: Remove fuel cap slowly
when refueling.
HELPFUL TIP
Toobtain thecorrect oilmix
ratio, pour 3.2 ounces of
2--cycle synthetic oil into
one gallon of fresh g as.
This engineiscertifiedtooperateonunleaded
gasoline. Before operation, gasoline must be
mixed with a good quality synthetic 2-cycle air-
cooledengineoil d esigned tobe mixed a t aratio
of 40: 1. Poulan/WEED EA TER brand synthetic
oil i s re commended. A 40:1 ratio is obtained
by mixing 3.2fluid ounces (95ml) of oil with 1
gallon (4 liters) of unleaded gasoline). DO
NOT USE automotive oil or boat oil. These
oils will cause engine dam age. When mixing
fuel, follow instructions printed on oilcontain-
er. Once oil is adde d to gasoline, shake con-
tainer momentarily to assure that the fuel is
thoroughly mixed.Always readand followthe
safety rules listed under HANDLE FUEL
WITH CAUTION.
CAUTION: Never use straight gasoline in
your unit. This will cause permanent engine
damage and void the limited warranty.
FUEL REQUIREMENTS
This engine requires the use of minimum 8 7
octane [R+M]/2 clean gasoline.
IMPORTANT
Use of alcohol b lended fuels (called gasohol or
usingethanol ormethanol) can cause major en-
gine performance and durability problems.
WARNING: Alternative fuels (not gas-
oline) such as E--15 (15% alcohol), E--20 (20%
alcohol),E--85(85%alcohol)are NOTclassified
as gasoline and are NOT approved for use in
2--stroke g asoline eng ines. Use of alternative
fuels will cause problems such as: improper
clutch engagements, overheating, vapor lock,
power loss, lubrication deficiency, deterioration
of fuel lines, gaskets and internal carburetor
components, e tc. Alternative fuels cause h igh
moisture absorption into the fuel/oil mixture
leading to oil and fuel separation.
OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
It i s recommended that the engine not be
operated forlonger than30secondsatfull
throttle. Releasing the trigger and a llowing
the engine to briefly return to idle speed (5 --
10 seconds) will be sufficient.
