Avoid dangerous environments. Do not
use in unventilated areas or where dust or
explosive vapors can build up.

To reduce the risk of electrical shock, use
extension cords specifically marked as
suitable for outdoor appliances. The elec-
trical rating ofthe cordmust notbe lessthan
the rating of the unit. The cord must be
marked with the suffix “W-A” (in Canada,
“W”). Make sure your extension cord is in
good condition. I nspect extension cord be-
fore useand replace if damaged. An under-
sized extension cord will cause a drop in
line voltage resulting in loss of power and
overheating. Ifindoubt, use thenextheavi-
er gauge. The smaller the gauge number,
the heavier the cord.

Do not use multiple cords.

The powerhead may have a polarized plug
(one blade is wider than the other); if so, it
will require the use ofa polarized extension
cord. Theappliance plug will fit into apolar-
ized extension cord only one way. If the
plug does not fit fully into the extension
cord, reverse the plug. If the plug still does
not fit, obtain a correct polarized extension
cord. A polarized extension cord will re-
quire the useof apolarized wall outlet. This
plug will fit into the polarized wall outlet only
oneway. Ifplug doesnot fit fully i nto thewall
outlet, reverse the plug. If it still does not fit,
contact a qualified electrician to install the
properwalloutlet. Donotchange theequip-
ment plug, extension cord receptacle, or
extension cord plug in any way.

Donot attempt to repair unit. Inspect the in-
sulation and connectors on the powerhead
and extension cord before each use. If
there is any damage, do not use until dam-
age is repaired by your authorized service
center.

Donot pull orcarryby cord; donot usecord
as a handle, close a door on cord, or pull
cord around sharp edges or corners. Keep
cord away from heated surfaces. Do not
unplug by pulling on cord. To unplug, grasp
the plug, not the cord.

Do not use the powerhead if the switch
does not turn the unit on and off properly.
Have the unit repaired by your authorized
service center.

Keep the extension cord clear of operator
and obstacles at all times. Do not expose
cords to heat, oil, water, or sharp edges.

Avoid any body contact with any grounded
conductor, such as metal fences, or pipes,
to avoid the possibility of electric shock.
Don’t handle plug or unit with w et hands.

Do not use with damaged cord or plug. If
powerhead is not working as it should, has
been dropped, damaged, left outdoors, or
dropped into water, return it to your autho-
rized service center for repair.

Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI)
protection should be provided on the circuit
or outlet to be used for thepowerhead. Re-
ceptacles are available having built-in
GFCI protection and may be used for this
measure of safety.
DOUBLE INSULATION
CONSTRUCTION
Your powerhead should be double insulated to
help protect against electric shock. Double in-
sulation constr uction consists of two separ ate
“layers” of el ectrical insulation instead of
grounding. Tools and appliances built with a
double insulation system ar e not intended to be
grounded. Safety pr ecautions must be ob-
served when operating any electrical tool. The
double insulation system only provides added
protection against injury resulting from an inter-
nal electrical insulation failure.
WARNING:
All repairs to an electric
power head, including housing, switch, motor ,
etc., must be diagnosed and repaired by quali-
fied service per sonnel. Replacement par ts fora
double insulated appliance must be identical to
the parts they r eplace. A double insulated
appliance is marked with the wor ds “double in-
sulation”or“doubleinsulated”.Thesymbol
(squar ew ithinasquare)m ayalsobemarkedon
the appliance. Failure to have the unit repaired
byyourauthorizedservicedealercancausethe
double insulation construction to become inef-
fective and re s ult in serio us injury.
UNIT/MAINTENANCE SAFETY
WARNING:
Disconnect powerhead
spark plug (or disconnect powerhead from
power source) before performing mainte-
nance.

Inspect entire unit before each use. Re-
place damaged parts. Checkfor fuel leaks.
Make sureall fasteners are inplace andse-
curely fastened.

Maintain unit according to recommended
procedures.
S
Have all maintenance and service not ex-
plained in this manual performed by an au-
thorized service center.
S
Throw away tines that are bent, warped,
cracked, broken, or damaged in any other
way . Replace parts that are cracked,
chipped, or damaged before using the unit.

and accessories. Never use wire, wire
rope, string, flailing devices, etc.

Be sure tines stop turning when engine
idles (see CARBURETOR ADJUST-
MENTS section of powerhead manual).

Remove thetines before making carburetor
adjustments. Hold the unit by hand.

Keep others awaywhen making carburetor
adjustments.

Never start the unit with the clutch housing
removed. The clutch can fly off and cause
serious injury.
S
Avoid heavy contact with solid objects that
might stop the tines. If heavy contact oc-
curs, stop the unit and inspect for damage.
S
If tines strike a foreign object, follow these
steps: stop unit and disconnect spark plug
wire (or disconnect from power source), in-
spect for damage, and repair any damage
before resuming operation of the unit.
