WARM ENGINE START
1. Move ignition switch to the “RUN (I)” position.
2. Place choke in PARTIAL CHOKE “ position (Figure
8
).
3. Grasp throttle handle firmly, depress safety trigger, and
squeeze throttle trigger to FULL position.
4. Pull starter rope briskly until engine starts, but no more
than 6 times. Keep throttle at FULL position until engine
runs smoothly. Move choke lever to “ ” position.
5. If engine does not start, place choke lever in RUN “
position and pull starter rope 5 more times. If engine
still does not start it is probably flooded. Wait 5 minutes
and repeat procedure with choke lever in RUN “
position and throttle full open.
IDLING/CARBURETOR ADJUSTMENT
1. Occassionally, due to atmospheric conditions such as
altitude it might be necessary to make slight adjustment
to idle speed.
2. Insert phillips or flat screwdriver into access hole A (fig-
ure 9). Turn 1/8 turn clockwise to increase idle speed
and 1/8 turn counterclockwise to decrease idle speed.
STOPPING THE ENGINE
Emergency Stopping Procedure. When it is necessary
to stop engine immediately, DEPRESS the OFF “STOP
” switch until the engine stops completely (Figure 10).
Normal Stopping Method. For nor
mal stopping, release
trigger and allow engine to return to idle speed. Then
DEPRESS the OFF “STOP ” switch until the engine
stops completely. (Figure 10)

ADDITIONAL SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
Before operating your unit, review ALL SAFETY PRECAU-
TIONS in this manual.
WARNING / CAUTION
IF UNFAMILIAR WITH TRIMMING techniques, prac-
tice the procedures with ENGINE in “OFF” position.
ALWAYS CLEAR WORK area of debris such as cans,
bottles, rocks, etc. Striking objects can cause serious
injury to operator or bystanders and also damage
equipment. If an object is accidentally hit, immediately
TURN ENGINE OFF and examine equipment. Never
oper
ate unit with damaged or defective equipment.
ALWAYS TRIM OR CUT AT HIGH ENGINE SPEEDS.
Do not run engine slowly at start or during trimming
operations.
DO NOT use equipment for purposes other than trim-
ming.
DO NOT operate unit with other people or animals in
the immediate vicinity. Allow a minimum of 50 feet (15
meters) between operator and other people and ani-
mals when trimming.
TRIMMING INSTRUCTIONS
1. WORKING POSITION. Maintain proper footing and
balance and do not overreach. Wear safety goggles,
non-skid footwear and gloves when trimming. Hold the
tool firmly in both hands and turn the tool ON. Always
hold the trimmer, as shown in the illustrations, with
one hand on the body handle and one hand on the
front handle
.
Never hold the tool by the blade guard.

TRIMMING NEW GROWTH. A wide, sweeping
motion, f
eeding the blade teeth through the twigs is
most eff
ectiv
e
.
A slight do
wnward tilt of the blade, in
the direction of motion gives the best cutting. (Fig. 11)
3.
LEVEL HEDGES. To obtain exceptionally level
hedges, a piece of string can be stretched along the
length of the hedge as a guide.
4. SIDE-TRIMMING HEDGES. Hold the trimmer as
shown and begin at the bottom and sweep up. (Fig.
12)
