Section 3 - MAINTENANCE
3.1 INTRODUCTION
To retain the quality of the mower, use genuine
SNAPPER replacement parts only. Contact a local
SNAPPER dealer for parts and service assistance.
For the correct part or information for a particular
mower, always mention model and serial number.
3.2 SERVICE - AFTER FIRST 5 HOURS
3.2.1. CHANGE ENGINE OIL
WARNING
DO NOT attempt any maintenance, adjustments or
service with engine and blade running. STOP engine
and blade. Remove key. Disconnect spark plug wire
and secure away from spark plug. Engine and
components are HOT. Avoid serious burns, allow
sufficient time for all components to cool.
NOTE: Due to the location of the oil drain plug under
the engine, perform the following procedure for the
easiest oil change:
1. Disconnect spark plug wire and secure end away
from plug. The items needed to perform oil change
are: cloth rags and a shallow pan.
2. Tip mower on its side, with the oil fill down. Do
not tip mower with spark plug or carburetor down.

3. Place shallow pan underneath the approximate
center of the oil fill.
4. Remove oil fill cap and allow oil to drain out
completely in pan. Some oil may spill onto engine
and hands, immediately wipe hands clean with
cloth rags. Dispose of oil properly.
5. Tip mower back up.
6. Fill engine with oil as specified in Engine
Owner’s Manual. Thereafter, change oil after each
25 hours of use.
3.2.2. GREASE LEVEL IN TRANSMISSION
The transmission requires no lubrication or
maintenance. If transmission leaks or malfunctions,
return machine to an authorized Snapper dealer for
repair.
3.2.3. WHEEL DRIVE CONTROL
The wheel drive control requires periodic
adjustment to maintain proper drive function. The
adjustment is performed with the thumbwheel
located on the wheel drive control cable and
requires no tools. Refer to Section “WHEEL DRIVE
CONTROL ADJUSTMENT”.
