S
Avoid dangerous environments. Do not
use in unventilated areas or where dust or
explosive vapors can build up.
S
To reduce the risk of electrical shock, use
extension cords specifically marked as
suitable for outdoor appliances. The elec-
trical ratingofthecordmust notbelessthan
the rating of t he unit. The cord must be
marked with the suffix “W-A” (in Canada,
“W”). Make sure your extension cord is in
good condition. Inspect extension cord be-
foreuseandreplaceif damaged.Anunder-
sized extension cord will cause a drop in
line voltage resulting in loss of power and
overheating. If in doubt,usethe nextheavi-
er gauge. The smaller the gauge number,
the heavier the cord.
S
Do not use multiple cords.
S
The powerhead may have a polarized pl ug
(one blade is wider than the other); if so, it
will requirethe use ofa polarizedextension
cord. Theapplianceplugwill fit into apolar-
ized extension cord only one way. If the
plug does not fit fully into the extension
cord, reverse theplug. If the plug still does
not fit, obtain a correct polarized extension
cord. A polarized extension cord will re-
quire theuseofa polarizedwall outlet. This
plugwill fit intothepolarizedwall outletonly
oneway. Ifplugdoesnotfit fully intothewall
outlet, reversethe plug. Ifit still does notfit,
contact a qualified electrician to install the
properwall outle t. Donotchangetheequip-
ment plug, extension cord receptacle, or
extension cord plug in any way.
S
Do notattempttorepair unit. Inspect thein-
sulation and connectors on thepowerhead
and extension cord before each use. If
there is any damage, do not use until dam-
age is repaired by your authorized service
center.
S
Do notpullor carry bycord; donot usecord
as a handle, close a door on cord, or pull
cord around sharp edges or corners. Keep
cord away from heated surfaces. Do not
unplug by pulling on cord.To unplug, grasp
the plug, not the cord.
S
Do not use the powerhead if the switch
does not turn the unit on and off properly.
Have the unit repaired by your authorized
service center.
S
Keep the extension cord clear of operator
and obstacles at all times. Do not expose
cords to heat, oil, water, or sharp edges.
S
Avoid any body contact with any grounded
conductor, such as metal fences, or pipes,
to avoid the possibility of electric shock.
Don’t handle plug or unit with wet hands.
S
Do not use with damaged cord or plug. If
powerhead is not working as it should, has
been dropped, damaged, left outdoors, or
dropped into water, return it to your autho-
rized service center for repair.
S
Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI)
protection should beprovidedon thecircuit
or outlet to b eused forthepowerhead. Re-
ceptacles are available having built-in
GFCI protection and may be used for this
measure of safety.
DOUBLE INSULATION
CONSTRUCTION
Your powerhead should b e double insulated to
help protect against electric shock. Doub le in-
sulation construction consists of two separa te
“layers” of electrical insulation instead of
ground ing. Tools and appliances built with a
d ou ble insulat io n system a re n ot int ended to be
ground ed. Safety precautions must be ob-
served whe n operating an y electrical tool. The
double insulation system only pro vides added
protection against injury resulting from an inter-
nal electrical insulation failure.
W ARNING:
All repairs to an electric
powerhead, including housing, switch, motor,
etc., must be diagno sed and repaired by quali-
fied service personnel. Replacement parts for a
doub le insulated appliance must be identical to
the p arts they replace. A double insulated
a pplian c e is mar k ed with the wor ds “double in-
sulation” o r “ double insulated”. Thesymbol
(square within asquare) may a lso b e marked o n
the appliance. Failure to h ave the unit repaired
by your authorized service dealer can cause the
double insulation construction to become inef-
fect ive a nd res ult in se r ious injury.
UNIT/MAINTENANCESAFETY
W ARNING:
Disconnect powerhead
spark plug (or disconnect powerhead from
power source) before performing mainte-
nance.
S
Inspect entire unit before each use. Re-
place damagedparts. Check for fuelleaks.
Make sureall fasteners arein placeandse-
curely fastened.
S
Maintain unit according to recommended
procedures.
S
Have all maintenance and service not ex-
plained in this manual performed by an au-
thorized service center.
S
Throw away tines that are bent, warped,
cracked, broken, or damaged in any other
way. Replace parts that are cracked,
chipped, or damaged beforeusing the unit.
S
Use only recommended Poulan PRO
!
parts and ac cessories. Never use wire,
wire rope, string, flailing devices, etc.
S
Be sure tines stop turning when engine
idles (see CARBURETOR ADJUST-
MENTS section of powerheadmanual).
S
Removethetinesbeforemakingcarburetor
adjustments. Hold the unit by hand.
S
Keepothers awaywhenmakingcarburetor
adjustments.
S
Never start the unit with the clutch housing
removed. The clutch can fly off and cause
serious injury.
S
Avoid heavy contact with solid objects that
might stop the tines. If heavy contact oc-
curs, stop the unit and inspect for damage.
S
If tines strike a foreign object, follow these
steps: stop unit and disconnect spark plug
wire (ordisconnect from power s ource), in-
spect for damage, and repair any damage
before resuming operation of the unit.
