CLEANING THE SPARK
ARRESTING SCREEN
Clean every 25 hours of operation or annually,
whichever comes first.

1. Loosenand r emove t he3 cylinder cover
screws. Remove the cylinder cover.
2. Pull of f the spark plug boot.
3. Loosenand r em ovethe locknutfromthe
bolt cover. Remove the bolt cover.
4. Loosen and remove the 2 muffler bolts.
Removethemufflerandbackplates. No-
tice the orientation of these parts for re-
assembling.
5. Locate the 2 outlet cover screws on the
muffler. Loosen and remove both
screws. Remove the outlet cover and
spark arresting screen.

6. Clean the spark arresting screen with a
wire brush. Replace screen ifany wires
are broken or screen is blocked after
cleaning.
7. Reinstall spark arresting screen.
8. Reinstall outletcover and2screws. En-
sureoutletcoverandbothscrews a rere-
installed correctly to prevent damage to
the saw (see illustrations). Theexhaust
outlets must face the chain brake (bar
side) of the saw.

9. Inspect the mufflergasket andreplace if
damaged.
10. Reinstall backplates, mufflergasketand
mufflerusing muffler bolts. TIghten until
secure.
11. Reinstall bolt cover and locknut.
12. Reinstall the spark plug boot.
13. Reinstall the cylinder cover and 3
screws. Tighten securely .

WARNING: The chain willbe mov-
ingduring mostof thisprocedure. Wearyour
protective equipmentand observe all safety
precautions.Thechainmustnotmoveatidle
speed.
The carburetor has beencarefully set at the
factory . Adjustments m ay be necessary if
you notice any of the following conditions:
S Chainmoves atidle. SeeIDLESPEED--T
adjusting procedure.
S Sawwillnot idle.SeeIDLESPEED--T ad-
justing procedure.
Idle Speed--T
Allow engine toidle. I f thechain moves, idle
istoofast. Iftheenginestalls,idleistooslow.
Adjustspeeduntil engineruns withoutchain
movement (idle too fast) or stalling (idle too
slow).
S Turnidle speed screw (T) clockwise to in-
crease engine speed.
S Turn idle speed screw (T) counterclock-
wise to decrease engine speed.

BAR MAINTENANCE
Ifyoursaw cutstooneside,hasto beforced
throughthecut,orbeenrunwithanimproper
amount of bar lubrication it may be neces-
sarytoserviceyourbar. Awornbarwilldam-
age your chain and make cutting difficult.
After each use, ensure ON/ST OP switch is
inthe S TOP position, thenclean allsawdust
from the guide bar and sprocket hole.
To maintain guide bar:
S MoveON/ST OPswitchto the STOPposi-
tion.
S Loosenand remove chain brake nuts and
chain brake. Remove bar and chain from
saw.
S Cleantheoil holesand bargroove af tereach
5 hours of operation.

S Burring of guide bar rails is a normal
process of rail wear. Remove these burrs
with a flat file.
S Whenrailtopisuneven,useaflatfiletore-
store square edges and sides.

Replaceguide barwhen thegroove is worn,
the guide bar is bent or cracked, or when
excess heatingorburring ofthe r ailsoccurs.
