WARNING: When using gardening
appliances, basic safety precautions must al-
ways be followed to reduce the risk of fire and
serious i njury. Read and follow all instructions.
This power unit can be dangerous! Operator
is responsible for following instructions and
warnings on unit and in manual. Read entire
instruction m anual before using unit! Be t hor-
oughly fam iliar withthe controls and theprop-
er use of the unit. Restrict the use of this unit
to persons who have read, u nderstand and
will follow the instructions and warnings on
the unit and in the manual. Never allow chil-
dren to operate this unit.
SAFETY INFORMATION
ON THE UNIT
OPERATOR SAFETY
DANGER: RISK OF CUT. KEEP
HANDS AND FEET AWAY FROM BLADE
AND CUTTING AREA. Do not attempt to
clear away cut material or hold material to be
cut w hen the blade is in motion. Make sure
powerhead is stopped and spark plug wire is
disconnected (or powerhead isdisconnected
from power s ource) when removing jammed
materialfromthe c uttingblade. Donot grabor
hold attachment by the cutting blade.
S Dress p roperly . Always wear safety gl asses
or similar eye protection when operating, or
performing m aintenance o n your unit (safety
glasses are available). Eye protection should
be marked Z8 7.
S Always wear face or dust mask if operation is
dusty.
S Always wear heavy, l ong pants, long sleeves,
boots, and gloves.
S Always wear foot protection. Do not go bare-
foot or wear sandals.
S Secure hair above shoulder len gth. Secure
orremovelooseclothingorclothingwith
loosely hanging ties, straps, tassels, etc.
They can be caught in m oving pa rts.
S Being fully covered also helps protect you
from debris and pieces of toxic p lants thrown
by spinning blade.
S Stay alert. Do not operate when you aretired,
ill, upset, or under the influence of alcohol,
drugs, ormedication. W atch what you are d o-
ing; use c ommon sense.
S Wear hearing p rotection.
S Never start or run inside a closed room or
building. B reathing exhaust fumes can kill.
S Keep handles f ree of oi l and f uel.
S Only operate unit w ith handlebar ins talled.
S Keep hands and feet away from cutting area.
S Never direct discharge o f materi al toward by-
standers nor allow anyone near the area of
operation. Use care in directing discharge to
avoid glass enclosures, automobiles, and the
like.
FUEL SAFETY (for gas powerheads)
S Mix and pour f uel outdoors.
S Keep away f rom sparks o r flames.
S Use a c ontainer a pproved for fuel.
S Do not smoke or a llow smoking nea r f uel or
the powerhead.
S Avoid spilling fuel or oil. Wipe up all fuel spills
before starting the powerhead.
S Move at least 10 feet (3 meters) away f ro m
fueling site before starting powerhead engine.
S Stop engi ne and allow to cool before remov-
ing fuel cap.
S Rem o ve fue l cap slo wl y.
ELECTRICAL SAFETY (for electric
powerheads)
WARNING: Avoid a dangerous envi-
ronment. To reduce the risk of electrical
shock, donot use in rain,in damp or wetloca-
tions, or around swimming pools, hot tubs,
etc. Do not expose to snow, rain, or water to
avoid the possibility of electrical shock. Do
nothandleextensioncordplugorunit withwet
hands.
S Use only a voltage supply as shown on t he
nameplate of the u nit.
S Avoid dangerous situations. Do not use in
presence of flammable liquids or gases to
avoid creating a fireor explosion and/or caus-
ing damage t o unit.
