SERVICE AND ADJUSTMENTS
LINE REPLACEMENT
Pre--wound spools offer themost convenient
method for replacing line and ensuring opti-
mum performance.
S Replacement spools are color--coded to en-
sure use of t he correct spool with your unit.
Be sure to use t he same color spool as the
existing spool.
NOTE: Always clear dirt and debr is from
cutting head components when per forming
any type of maintenance.
S Hold spool andunscrew cap by turning inthe
direction shown on top of the cap.
S Remove line guide ring and spool.
NOTE:Whenremovingand/or installingspool,
ensure dust cup remains installed over shaft.
Use a pre--wound spool or refill spool with
line. Ifusingapre--woundspool,removeta pe
strip from line and spool.
REFILLING THE SPOOL WITH LINE
WARNING: Use only 0.08 0 inch (2
mm) diameter round line. Other sizes and
shapes of linewill notadvance properly and will
result in improp er cutting head function or can
cause serious injury.Do notuse othermaterials
such as wire, string, rope, etc. Wire can break
offduring cutting andbecomea dangerous mis-
sile that can cause serious injury .
1. Cut a length of 2 5 feet (8 meters) of 0.080
inch (2 mm ) di ame ter round Poulan/
WEED EATER brand line.

2. Insert one end of line i nto center cavity of
empty spool. Ensure line will feed into
spool in the direction shown on the spool
(counterclockwise).
3. Continuefeeding lineinto spool, l eaving 4--
6inches (10 -- 15cm)unwound fromcenter
of spool.
INSTALLING SPOOL WITH LINE
1. Install replacement spool.
2. Thread line through line guide ring.

3. Rest guide ring o n spool and place line
throughslot. Allowlinetoextend4--6inch-
es (10 -- 15 cm) from center of spool.
4. Ensure line remains in slot while screwing
cap ontothe shaft. Onlytighten c aphand
tight!
CARBURETOR IDLE SPEED
ADJUSTMENT
WARNING: Keep othersaway when
making idlespeedadjustments. Thetrimmer
head will be spinning during this pr ocedure.
Wearyour protectiveequipmentandobserve
all safety precautions.
The carburetor has been carefully set a t the
factory .Adjustmentsmaybenecessaryifyou
notice a ny of the following conditions:
S Engine will not idl e when the throttle i s re-
leased.
Make adjustments with the unitsupported so
the cutting attachment is off the ground and
will not make contact with any object. Hold
theunitbyhandwhilerunningandmakingad-
justments. Keep all parts of your body away
from the cutting attachment an d m uffler.
To adjust idle speed:
Allowenginetoidle.Adjustspeeduntilengine
runs without stalling (idle speed too slow).
S Turn idle speed screw clockwise to in-
creaseenginespeedifenginestallsordies.
S Turnidle speed screw counterclockwise to
decrease engine speed.
