FUELING & LUBRICATION
WARNING:
Remove fuel cap slow ly
when refueling.
FU E LING EN GINE
This engine i s certified t ooperate on unleaded
gasoline. Before operation, gasoline must b e
mixed with a good quality 2- cycle air-cooled
engine oil. We recommend Poulan PRO
R
brand oil. I f you do not use this oil, use a good
quality 2-cycle air-cooled oil designed to be
mixedataratioof 40:1. A40:1ratio isobtained
by mixing 3.2 onces of oil with 1 gallon of
unleaded gasoline. Included with t his saw isa
3.2 ounce container of Poulan/Weed Eater
brand oil. Pour the entire contents of this
container into 1 gallon of gasoline to achieve
the pr oper fuel mixture.
DO NOT U SE automotive or boat oi l. These
oils will cause engine damage. When mixing
fuel follow the instructions printed o n the
container. Always read and follow the safety
rules listed under HANDLE FUEL WITH
CAUTION.
BAR AND CHAIN LUBRICATION
The bar and chai n require continuous lubr ica-
tion. Lubr ication is provided by the automatic
oiler system when the oil tank is kept filled.
Lack of oil will quickly ruin the bar and chain.
Too little oil will cause overheating shown by
smoke coming f r om the chain and/or discolor-
ation of t he bar.
In freezing weather oil will thicken, making it
necessary to thin barand chain oil w ith asmall
amount ( 5 to 10%) of #1 D iesel F uel or
kerosene. Bar and chain oil must be free
flowingfortheoil systemto pumpenough oilfor
adequate lubr ication.
Genuine Poulan or Poulan PRO
R
bar and
chain oil is recomm ended to pr otect your uni t
against excessive wear from heat and friction.
Poulan or Poulan PRO
R
oil resists high
temperature thinning. If Poulan or Poulan
PRO
R
bar andchain oil is not available, use a
good grade S AE 30 oil.
S
Never use w aste o il f or bar and chai n l ubr i-
cation.
S
Always stop the engine before removingthe
oil c ap.
IMPORTANT
Experience indicates that alcohol--blended
fuels (called gasohol or using ethanol ormeth-
anol)can attractmoisture whichleads to sepa-
ration and formation of acids during storage.
Acidic gas can damage the fuel system of an
engine while in storage. To avoid engine prob-
lems,thefuelsystem shouldbe emptiedbefore
storage for 3 0 days or longer. Drain the gas
tank, start the engine and let it run until t he fuel
lines and carbur etor are em pty. Use fresh fuel
next s eason. SeeSTORAGEsection foraddi-
tional information.
STARTING

muffler can cause serious burns.
To stop the engine move the ON/STOP
switch to the STOP position.
