Cleaning the air filter:
A dirty air filter decreases engine perform-
ance and increases fuel consumption and
harmful emissions. Always clean after 15
tanks of fuel or 5 hours of operation, which-
ever comes first. Clean more frequently in
dusty conditions. A used aire filter can never
be completely cleaned. It is advisable to re-
place your airfilter witha newone after every
50hours ofoperation, orannually,whichever
comes first.
1. Loosen 3 screws on cylinder cover.
2. Remove cylinder cover.
3. Remove air filter.
4. Clean the air filter using hot soapy water.
Rinse with clean coolwater. Air drycom-
pletely before r einstalling.
5. Lightly oil air filter before installing to im-
prove the efficiency of air filter. Use
2 --cycle engine oil or motor oil (SAE 30).
Squeeze excess oil from filter.
6. Reinstall air filter.
7. Reinstall cylinder cover and 3 screws.
TIghten securely.

INSPECT MUFFLER AND SPARK
ARRESTING SCREEN
As the unit is used, carbon deposits build up
on the muffler and spark arresting screen,
and must be removed to avoid creating afire
hazard or affecting engine performance.
Replace t hespark arresting screen if breaks
occur.

Cleaning is required e very 25 hours of oper a-
tion or annually, whichever com es f irst.
1. Loosen and remove t he 2 muffler cover
screws.
2. Removethe m uf fler cover(cover snapsoff
muffler body).
3. Remove m uf fler dif fuser and spark a rr est-
ingscreenassembly.Notice theorientation
of these parts for reassembling.
4. Clean thesparkarrestor scr eenwith awire
brush.Replace screen ifbreaks are found.
5. Replace any broken or cracked muffler
parts.
6. Reinstalldiffuserandspark arr estorscreen
assembly w ith r ound holes f acing up.
7. Reinstall m uf fler cover and 2 screws.
Tighten secur ely.
CARBURETOR ADJUSTMENT
WARNING:
The chain will be mov-
ing during most of this procedure. Wearyour
protective equipment and observe all safety
precautions. The chain must notmove atidle
speed.
The carburetor has been carefully set at the
factory. Adjustments may be necessary if
you notice any of the following conditions:

Chain moves at idle. See IDLE SPEED--T
adjusting procedure.
S
Saw will not idle. See IDLE SPEED--T ad-
justing procedure.
Idle Speed--T
Allow engine to idle. If the chain moves, idle
istoo fast. Ifthe engine stalls, idleis tooslow.
Adjust speed until engine runs without chain
movement (idle too fast) or stalling (idle too
slow). Theidle speed screw islocated inthe
area above the primer bulb and is labeled T.

Turn idle speed screw (T) clockwise to in-
crease engine speed.
S
Turn idle speed screw (T) counterclock-
wise to decrease engine speed.

BAR MAINTENANCE
If your saw cuts to one side, has to be for ced
through the c ut, or been run with an improper
amount of bar lubrication it may be necessary
to ser vice your bar. A worn bar will dam age
your chain and make cutting difficult.
After each u se, ensur e O N /STO P sw itch is in
theSTOPposition, thenclean allsawdust from
the guide bar and sprocket hole.
To maintain guide bar:

Move O N /STO P s w itch to the ST OP posi-
tion.
S
Loosen and remove chain brake nut s and
chain brake. Remove bar and chain from
saw.
S
Cleanthe oilholes andbargroove aftereach
5 hour s o f oper ation.

Burringof guide barrailsisa normalprocess
of rail wear. R emove these burrs with a flat
file.

When r ail top is uneven, use a f lat f ile to re-
store squar e edges and sides.
