AIR FILTER
CAUTION:
Do not clean filter in gasoline
or other flammable solvent to avoid creating
a fire hazard or producing harmful evapora-
tive emissions.
Cleaning the air filter:
A dirty air filter decreases engine perform-
ance and increases fuel consumption and
harmful emissions. Always clean after every
5 hours of operation.

Clean the cover and the area around it to
keep dirt and sawdust from falling into the
carburetor chamber when the cover is re-
moved.
S
Remove the parts as illustrated below.
S
Wash the filter in soap and water. Rinse in
clean coolwater. Airdry completely before
reinstalling.
S
Lightly oil air filter before installing to im-
prove the efficiency of the air filter. Use
2 --cycle engine oil or motor oil (SAE 30).
Squeeze excess oil from filter.

Reinstall parts.

INSPECT MUFFLER AND SPARK
ARRESTING SCREEN
As the unit is used, carbon deposits build up
on the m uffler and spark arresting screen,
and must be removed to avoid creating afire
hazard or affecting engine performance.
Replace t hespark arresting screen if breaks
occur.

Cleaning is required ever y 25 hours of oper a-
tion or annually, whichever com es fir st.

Loosen and remove the 2 muffler cover
screws.
S
Remove the muffler cover ( cover snaps off
muffler body).
S
Remove muffler d iffuser and spar k ar r esting
screen assembly . Notice t he orientation of
these parts for reassembling.
S
Clean the spar k a r r estor scr een with a wire
brush. R eplace scr een i f br eaks a re f ound.
S
Replace any br oken or cracked muffler
parts.
S
Reinstall d if fuser and spark arrestor screen
assembly w ith round holes facing up.
S
Reinstall m uf fler cover and 2 screw s. Tight-
en securely.
CARBURETOR ADJUSTMENTS
Your carbur etor is equipped with limiter caps.
Carbur etor adjustment is a c omplicated task.
We recom mend that you take your unit to an
authorized ser v icedealer . D amagewill occurif
you turn the needl es beyond the limiter stops.
BAR MAINTENANCE
If your saw cuts to one side, has to be forc ed
through the c ut, or been run w ith an impr oper
amount of bar lubrication it m ay be necessar y
to ser vice your bar. A wor n bar w ill dam age
your chain and make cutting difficult.
After each u se, ensur e O N /STO P sw itch is in
theSTOPposition, thenclean allsawdust from
the guide bar and sprocket hole.
To maintain guide bar:
S
Move O N /STO P s w itch to the ST OP posi-
tion.
S
Loosen and remove chain brake nut s and
chain brake. Remove bar and chain from
saw.
S
Cleanthe oilholes andbargrooveaftereach
5 hour s o f oper ation.

Add lubricant to sprocket hole after each
use.
S
Burringof guide barrailsisa normal process
of rail wear. R emove these burrs with a flat
file.

When rail top is uneven, use a flat f ile to re-
store squar e edges and sides.
