TROUBLESHOOTING CHART:
See appropriate section in manual unless directed to Sears service center
PROBLEM
Engine clicks but
will not start
Loss of power
CAUSE
1 Weak or dead battery.
2 Corroded battery terminals°
3 Loose or damaged wiring,,
4 Faulty solenoid or starter,
1 Cutting too much grass/too fast1
2 Throttle in "CHOKE" position,
3 Build_up of grass, leaves and
trash under mowe_.
CORRECTION
1 Recharge or replace battery_
2 Clean battery terminals.
3 Check allwiring,
4 Check/replace solenoid or starter°
1 Raise cutting height]reduce speed
2 Adjust throttle control.
3 Clean underside of mower
housing,
4 Dirty air filter,
5 Low oil level/dirty oil.
6 Faulty spark plug
7 Dirty fue] filter.
8 Stale or dirty fuel
Water infuelo
10 Spark plug wire looser
4 Clean/replace air filter,
5 Check oil level/change oilo
6 Clean& regapor changespark plug
7 Replace fuel filter
8 Emp#y fuel tank and refill tank with
fresh, clean gasoline°
9 Empty fuel tank and carburetor,
refill tank with fresh gasoline and
replace fuel filter.
10 Connect & tighten spark plug wire.
Excessive vibration
Engine continues to
run when operator
leaves seat with atta-
chment clutchengaged
11 Dirty engine air screen/fins,
12 Dirtylclogged muffler,
13 Loose or damaged wiring.
14 Carburetor out of adjustmenL
15 Engine valves out of adjustment°
1 Worn, bent or loose blade.
2 Bent blade mandrel.
3 Loose/damaged part(s).
1 Faulty operator-safety presence
control system,
11 Clean engine air screen/fins
12 Clean/replace muffler,
t3 Check all wiring,,
14 See "To Adjust Carburetor" in
Service and Adjustments section_
15 Contact a Sears or other qualified
service center.
1 Replace blade. Tighten blade bolt.
2 Contact a Sears or other qualified
service center,
3 Tighten loose part(s)_
Replace damaged parts.
1 Check wiring, switches and
connections, if not corrected,
contact a Sears or other
