Snowblower won't stay running if I lift my finger ...

Snowblower won't stay running if I lift my finger off the electric start button. This product was originally owned by my mother and she passed away 4 years ago. It has not been run since 2010. It does start, it just won't stay on. There is gas/oil in the tank. Would a faulty spark plug cause this?
