1995 White LT-15 OHV lawn tractor. Cruismatic will...

1995 White LT-15 OHV lawn tractor. Cruismatic will not function. I noticed that my clutch return spring had snapped and replaced it, but the tractor will not go any faster than first gear. Did I replace the spring incorrectly or is it something different all together. Thanks
