Question About Troy-Bilt Lawn Mower None

I recently purchased a rear lawn bag for the mower. When I used it, I find that it leaves a trail of grass clippings on the ground. I have a mower w. a smaller enger and it picks up everything. Do I have to set the mower to a certain height? Or, is this a piece of crap and I wasted $100 on a rear bag? Thanks for your help.
