My 9 yr old Scotts S1742 mower was working fine for me until yesterday. I was mowing the lawn & left it running for a few minutes while I jumped off to tend to something else. She suddenly conked out & now all I get is a slight dull sound (not even a clicking sound) when I turn the ignition. After I tried to start a few times I checked the battery terminals & the negative terminal was rather hot. Any suggestions?

1 1.Check terminal connection at battery and to starter/ground. Clean and good connection. 2.Check the fuse for the 'safety' switch that is under the seat. 3.Check the output / charge of the battery with a Ohmtester (Analog meter).

0 I would check the voltage if possible and make sure it is above 12 volts. Clean and tighten the wires on battery. Give it a good charge and see if it helps. Could be the starter relay located beside the battery. If you turn the key and you get 12 volts on the two little wires and you don't hear a click then it may be bad. dont forget to hold down the safety switch under the seat so it can crank. You can short the two big wires on the relay and it should crank if the battery is ok.
