I have just bought a Ryobi RML5219SMEB petrol lawn mower but could not get 10W30 oil so got 10W40 oil from my local garage. Is it ok to use this grade of oil?

5 It’s okay to use the 10W40 oil. The only different between the two oils is that, the 10W30 has a low thickness at high temperatures than the 10W40 oil. Both oils are multigrade hence functions the same. Multigrade oil has an alphabetical letter between the two numbers. e.g. 10W30, 10W40, 10W50 etc. A huge different could have been experienced if you bought a strait weight oil which is indicated by only one number. e.g. 30w or 50w. Strait oil doesn’t have additives as compared to multigrade. They hence tend to be unable to reduce the amount of thickening and thinning and therefore they cannot lubricate the engine over different ranges of temperature for a specific period of time.
