0 Remove chain brake / rear sprocket cover, Remove chain and bar. Remove spark plug. Put something through plug hole into cylinder on top of piston to stop engine rotating - I used nylon strimmer line but you could use starter cord or similar. Don't lose the end inside the cylinder! Unscrew clutch assembly from end of crankshaft. Note it has a left-hand thread. You may need to tap it with a hammer and chisel to start it moving. Once clutch is off, remove washer, sprocket/clutch drum, needle roller bearing. Carefully prise out worm gear, which is usually what fails. The worm gear is the circular hard grey plastic part round the crankshaft extension. If you need to get to the oil pump, undo the two screws that hold the black plastic cover to the crankcase and carefully prise it off from the side with the screw holes. This uncovers the pump itself which is held on by three or four screws.

0 If you are really stuck, I have one spare. It'd be as well to dismantle the one you have to check that it really is the worm drive that has gone. To be honest, I'd eBay it "for spares or repair", it's not a very good saw. Buy a Stihl or a Husqvarna, you won't go far wrong. I REALLY like the Husqvarna 560XP, not cheap, but a great saw, worth 15 of the Ryobi at 3 x the price. It all depends what you want to do with your saw, of course. I have a Ryobi RCS 4450C I am selling, new worm drive, spare worm drive, seven chains, tools, carry box, manual, make me an offer? Selling due to purchase of Husqvarna 560XP :-)

0 This is my second reserve saw and I agree not the best. Some might say crap! The pump has been stripped and the thread on the black part is worn and no longer driving the pump drive If you can spare a part I would be most grateful. My main saw is a Tanaka which just keeps going, a bit like Triggers broom. 14 years old now but will have to be replaced soon. Like you, most likely by a Husky
