Does return fuel line from primer bulb have to reach far enough into gas tank to touch fuel in order to prime fuel to bulb? I replaced the original line with a shorter line that doesn't go far enough into gas tank to reach the fuel and it won't pump fuel to primer bulb.

0 I replaced spark plug and all the fuel lines. I used a shorter line from a trimmer engine for the return line from primer bulb to gas tank and can't pump gas to primer bulb. The engine wont start. Could the short return line be the problem?
