New chainsaw, cranks good, idles good but chokes down at high speed while sawing and sometimes dies. It will restart on one pull but will repeat coking down under a load at high speed. Any suggestions?

5 The carburetor is set too lean on the high speed adjustment. First you need a Poulan carburetor adjustment tool, part number 530035560, which you can order online for under $10. Second turn the high speed adjustment all the way in and then back out one full turn. You may have to tweak the low and high slightly to achieve the best performance. The low speed ended up at about 1 and 1/4 turns out. Also, the idle speed may have to be tweaked if the chain is still turning at idle speed.

0 Anyone with this problem who has had the saw for a while might also try cleaning the carb with a carb cleaner and/or something like Lucas gas treatment, in particular if you have been using the typical gasoline that is part ethanol. Ethanol ruins small engine carburetors; it leaves deposits that can clog the venturi. I have had to disassemble and clean two generators because of Ethanol in the gas. If you can find pure (100%) gasoline with NO ethanol, your engine will need less maintenance. I use only pure gasoline now for my lawn equipment and chain saw. It costs more if you can find it, but it is worth it.
