Question About John Deere Lawn Mower stx 38
service manual...

I am looking for the service manual for the John Deere stx 38. It has a Kohler 12.5 motor in it and I need the specs on the adjustment for the coil/magneedo? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

0 I just checked with the JD dealers mechanic on mine yesterday, and he said about .0010 gap. He suggested that a matchbook cover can be used to get a reasonably accurate gap. Just make sure it is single thickness, rotate the flywheel so the magnets are in position where the coil will be mounted, put the matchbook cover over the magnets, set the coil up against the matchbook cover in front of the magnets, and tighten the bolts. Make sure both ends of the laminated "u" are gapped properly against the matchbook cover over the magnets. Remove the matchbook cover and you'll have an appropriate gap. This trick also works for most other magneto/coil assemblies on small engines. I hope this helps!
