Mower does not start when turning the key to the s...

Mower does not start when turning the key to the start position. Replaced ignition unit on dash. Mower may start after 10 or 12 tries. Mower is 10 years old and only lately has it not been starting. It 's like the battery is completely dead and then for no reason may work fine.
