My LT 18542 runs like a top after 11 years of hard...

My LT 18542 runs like a top after 11 years of hard use. Began to make loud banging and scraping noise while in use and suddenly stopped moving. Wouldn't drive forward or backward when gear changed. Cannot see where anything is missing when compared to a diagram of the rear end. What might be it's problem?
