spring on back of mower on brake side, where does ...

spring on back of mower on brake side, where does it go Had to take off to replace belt but now mower doesnt brake and has no high speed just one speed? Think we put spring in wrong place. The manual shows as #76 spring but dont see where it hooks on the side closest toward brake
