need to hook this 120/240 volt outlet to a single ...

need to hook this 120/240 volt outlet to a single phase air compressor.The Air compressor has black / white and green wire.confused about the nuetral.THE MOTOR WILL NOT TURNS SLOW ON THE COMPRESSOR.

0 The compressor was hook up for 220 volt plug .3 prong.The generator has 4 wire plug.Need the right plug for generator to power up compressor.Compressor is a single phase 15 amp motor.
