Question About Flymo Lawn Mower 46SDR

I have a flymo quick silver 46S it started fine after the winter break but stopped half way through mowing suddenly. I noticed a clicking sound coming from the engine just before it died. Any suggestions, I've checked plug, it was sooty and taken the air filter off, still no joy. Richard
