I have an 500 VL, 20" bar and chain. It's blowing gas out exaust. what is wrong?

5 Carberator most likely needs adjusted or maybe reworked if it has been sitting awhile or is an older unit this could be your issue. Generally the floats control flow of gas and could be stuck with debri or just bad from age. A good cleaning will probably remedy this problem which can be done in an hour or so depending on your mechanical abilities
