gas line

for Craftsman Trimmer 316.79186

The gas line from the thumb pump to the tank pulled loose from the tank. The tank now has a hole where the line is suppose to go. Isn't ther suppose to be a fitting in that hole

    No, your fuel line threads thru that hole into the tank, and holds the fuel filter stone inside. On some models, occasionally, they put a splicer between the fuel line in the tank and the fuel line outside of the tank, probably with the idea it might be easier to replace just part of the line... but it is not. continued...

    Just buy about foot of proper size fuel line to thread into the hole, then pull it out thru the tank neck to attach your fuel filter stone, then store the excess line in the tank. Hint: there at least four different size lines for that application, so take your old line with you to the small engine parts dealer. Jim

    I found it easy to pull the replacement line through by first cutting the line at a diagonal. The pointed end comes through tank wall and you can pull it through with needlenose pliers.

    there two gas lines exiting the tank one with stone filter and a spltter. I need to know where to connect the gas lines.

    One is a supply line, and one is a return line. The stone filter line to the suction side of the primer bulb, then pressure side of bulb to the bottom of the carb (I think), then top side of the carb back to tank. Just keep trying combinations until you see fuel flow thru the lines freely. If you have high pressure with no easy flow, or no flow at all, it is not right yet. Jim

    I am having the same problem. Unfortunately I cannot tell which line goes were. They both completely deteriorated. I bought new line and kept the length of them both long enough to reach the bottom of the tank. But I am not sure if that is correct. It does not seem to want to prime or keep running.

    Only the line with stone fuel filter must rest on bottom of tank, the other line is a vent line returing from carb in this closed loop system.

    If you can see fuel flowing thru the lines when you have a full tank and pump the primer bulb then the loop is correct. If not you need to keep trying until you get fuel flowing through the looped system properly. It is very hard to explain here, you just need to keep trying, there is only one way that works...
