motor runs but no power.breaker not tripped

5 If its under 120 volts AC, your generator is probably bad A multimeter is a $15 item at Radio shack. Set it for AC reading...

1 when not used for a long time it loses it magnetism. The term is 'excite' the field. Look this up and you should be running in short order.

0 I replaced the generator head. It has magnets in the roor to self ecite the field. It puts out around 2 volts when running. I suspect that the 36mfd 300 volt capacitor might not be working. It doessn't have any shorts between the leads of the capacitor. I'm not sure how to test the capacitor to see if it is charging to 36 mfd... Mike
