I'm replacing the blown engine on my 16.5 hp mtd lawn tracter . I removed the bolt for the engine pully but I can't get the pully off. It's a double pully, a small one above and a large one below. The large one is too big to get through the hole on the mower frame.

0 r_c_lordyour pully has a bolt up in the shaft that has the 2 pulls attached. It is either 1/2" or 9/16" you can use a socket wrench with a 3 or 4 inch extention. Undue counter clockwise. hope this helps. Oh yes the inside shaft has a grove in it that looks like it would hold a very long sheer pin/flywheel pin. wiggle the 2 pullys left and right it should dop right out( the shaft that actualy has the pulleys on it has pressed in tract to hold it in the grove on the engines downward drive shaft.

0 if you removed the single bolt that is recessed up in the the center of the shaft, that has to be removed from the underside, then try to get some loosening spray on the shaft top right next to the engine and also up in the shaft where you took out the bolt, let it set for a couple of hours respray let it set over night then take the wooden end of a hammer and start hitting lightly downword on the top pully. DO NOT BEND THE PULLEY. sometimes you can lay a wide peice of wood on top of the pully to hit on to dispers the blow to a wider area. if this does not work you will need someone who has the right pulley removing pullers to pull it. The pullyes are attached to a piece of hollow pipe that slides on the entended driveshaft of the engine.
