I tore down my Lawn Tractor to clean it up and get it working better for all this snow we've been getting this year. I was very careful to not get any parts mixed up. And when I had the Tractor all put back together, I realized that there was something wrong with the shifter. The shifter is not solid and it will spin the opposite direction sometimes. It is very hard to change gears and last night it just seized right up so I couldn't shift at all. I took the seat and fender sections back off to access the shifter shafts and the connectors (Part #1713422). The problem I see is that there is a slot in the Pivot Ball (Part #1722004) and the cover plate (Part #1723436). It seems there should be something there that goes in those slots to keep the shifter lever straight. I have a Parts diagram with an exploded view but it shows nothing that would go in the slots to keep the lever straight. I'm really baffled here. I was all happy that I got it back together without any extra parts left over. Can you tell me, what am I missing here? When the shifter lever spins around backwards, it keeps binding up and getting stuck. Something has to keep that lever straight. Looking forward to getting this thing right. We have more snow coming! Thanks. Rob

0 I found the pin I figured I was missing. I actually found it laying on the floor under the tractor about three days before I tore it down. I put it on my workbench figuring it had to have fallen off from somewhere. Well, I guess I was right. I am still having a problem, but I'll start a different thread.
