mtd mower only pulls in 5th & 6th gears some times...

mtd mower only pulls in 5th & 6th gears some times and willnot pull in any other gears or on an uphill grade

0 I have a bolens 17hp that was doing the same thing. After removing the cover & looking at the pulleys I found that the design did not allow enough room to clear the frame. Solution for me was to cut a 3" by 5" hole or opening in the sheet-metal after removing the left rear wheel. Once I got the hole cut (I used a 4 1/2" angle grinder with a cut off wheel) It no longer slips. I got the tractor for hauling it off because they could not figure out how to fix the slipping belts.
