FILLINGTHEHYDRAULICRESERVOIR
FillthehydraulicreservoirtothetopmarkonthedipstickwithDexron
III/Mercon
IIIautomatictransmission
fluid,a10WAWhydraulicfluidorPro-Mix
AW-32Hydraulicoil.Afterthehydraulicreservoirandtheengine
crankcasearefilledcorrectlywiththeirrespectiveoils,starttheengine.Remembertosetthethrottleandturnon
thefuelshut-offvalve.Thehydraulicpumpshouldprimeitself.Withtheenginerunning,movethehydraulic
valvelevertowardthewedge.Thiswillcausethecylindertoextendandexpelair.Whenthecylinderisfully
extended,retractit.Repeatthisprocedureseveraltimes.(Anerraticmovementofthecylinderandwedgeindicates
thatthereisairinthesystem).Oncethecylinderhasasmoothandconstantspeedindicatingthatallairhasbeen
expelled,shutthesystemoffandrefillthereservoiruntilthefluidisinthesafeoperatingrangeasspecifiedbythe
marksonthedipstick.
STARTUP

SeeseparateEngineManualforfuelandoilrecommendations.Ifapplicableyourlogsplitterhascomeequipped
withafuelshut-offvalvefortowingpurposes.
Beforestartingenginemakesurecrankcaseisfilledcorrectlywithoilandtheproperfuelhasbeenused.The
enginewillonlystartwhenthethrottleleverandfuelshut-offvalveifapplicableareturnedtotheirONpositions.
STARTINGINSTRUCTIONS
1. Movethrottlecontrolto“FAST.”
2. SetChoketoonposition(ifapplicable)orpushprimerbulbthree(3)times.NOTE:
Donotuseprimeror
choketorestartawarmengineafterashortshutdown.
3. Graspropehandleandpulloutslowlyuntilresistanceitfelt.Thenpullrapidlywithafullarmstroke.
NOTE:
Ifenginefailstostartafterthree(3)pulls,repeatsteps1and2.
4. WhenEnginestarts,setchoketooffposition(ifapplicable)leavethrottlecontrolat“FAST.”Thethrottle
mustbesetinthefastpositionformaximumperformance.
5. Tostopengine,movethrottleleverto“SLOW”forafewsecondsthento“STOP.”
