GAS AND OIL FILL-UP

IMPORTANT: Yourtractorisshippedwithmotoroil inthe engine.
However,you MUSTchecktheoil levelbeforeoperating.Becareful
notto overfill.
Forinstructionsonhowtocheckthe engineoil, referto CheckingThe
EngineOilin the ServiceandMaintenancesectionofthis manual.
Gasoline
Thegasolinetankis locatedunderthehood.Do notoverfill.
Useextremecarewhenhandlinggasoline.Gasolineisextremely
flammableandthe vaporsareexplosive.Neverfuel machineindoors
orwhiletheengineis hotor running.Extinguishcigarettes,cigars,
_ppes,andothersourcesof gn t on.
NOTE : Purchasegasolineinsmallquantities.Donotuse gasolineleft
overfromthe previousseason,to minimizegumdepositsin the fuel
system.
Thisengineiscertifiedto operateon unleadedgasoline.For best
results,fill thefueltankwithonlyclean,fresh,unleadedgasoline
witha pumpstickeroctaneratingof87or higher.
Gasohol(upto 10%ethylalcohol,90%unleadedgasolineby
volume)is anapprovedfuel.Othergasoline/alcoholblends,such
as E85,arenotapproved.
MethylTertiaryButylEther(MTBE)andunleadedgasolineblends
(upto a maximumof 15%MTBEby volume)are approvedfuels.
Othergasoline/etherblendsare notapproved.
Fillfuel tankoutdoorsorin well-ventilatedarea.
Donotoverfillfueltank. Filltankto no morethan 1/2inchbelow
bottomoffillerneckto allowspacefor fuelexpansion.
Neverremovegascapor addfuel whiletheengineis hot or run-
ning.Allowengineto cool atleasttwo minutesbeforerefueling.
Ifgasolineisspilled,wipe itoff theengineandequipment.Move
machinetoanotherarea.Wait5 minutesbeforestartingthe
engine.
To Add Gasoline
1. Turntheengineoff andlet enginecool atleast2 minutesbefore
removingthefuelcap.The gasolinetankis underthe rearfender,
withthefuelfill cap locatedinthe centerofthe rearfender.
Thefuelcap is tetheredtothe tractortopreventitsloss. Donot
attemptto removethecap fromthe tractor.
2. Fillthefuel tankwithgasoline.
3. Reinstallthefuelcap.
For California Models:
ForCaliforniamodelsequippedwitha tethered,ratchetingfuelcap,
STOPfillingtankoncefuelis seeninsidethefiller neck. Thisensures
thata properexpansionvolumeis created,otherwisethefuel canover-
flowcreatinga hazardoussituation. Do NOTfilltothe top ofthe filler
neck.On Californiamodels,fillthetank inaccordancewith Figure7.

feetnearblades.
, Beforeleavingoperator'sposition,stoptractor,disengage
blades,engageparkingbrake,shutengineoff, and removekey.

SAFETY INTERLOCK SYSTEM
The safetyinterlocksystemis designedfor safeoperationofthetrac-
tor.If thissystemshouldevermalfunction,donot operatethe tractor,
immediatelycontact1-800-4-MY-HOMEto havethesystemserviced.
Thesafetyinterlocksystempreventsthe enginefromstarting
unlessthe parkingbrakeisengagedandthe PTO(BladeEngage)
leveris inthe disengaged(OFF)position.
Thesafetyinterlocksystemwillautomaticallyshutoffthe engineif
the operatorleavesthe seatbeforeengagingtheparkingbrake.
Thesafetyinterlocksystemwillautomaticallyshutoffthe engine
if theoperatorleavesthe tractor'sseatwiththe PTO(Blade
Engage)leverengaged,regardlessof whetherthe parkingbrake
is engaged.
