we just had same thing happen. Figured it must be easy, took off plate, removed motor, only to find, it's not so easy. Several shops told us this is junk and to throw away, as they want $60 to repair. We're taking the $60 hit. But, to design a device such that a "wear item" requires such a complex and costly repair is simply lame. I thought Troy-Bilt was a quality name, but now, I'm not convinced.

poor design
I agree! I got really deep into it, had taken it what I thought was completely dis-assembled. That's why they cost so much-they cost so much to fix. You can't take it back to where you bought it for an exchange. Troy-Bilt makes you ship it to them. I think I need to share this with Troy-Bilt. Might be worth it, might not.
