While changing the drive belt on my Scotts 2046 I ...

While changing the drive belt on my Scotts 2046 I noticed that there is a lot of "play" in the pulley and fan on the rear end. There does not seem to be any play in the shaft that they are mounted on. Is this normal? It will be a big job to dis-assemble so I really would like to know before I take it all apart.
